NVDA add-on that makes MuseHub comfortable to use with a screen reader.
MuseHub is the free Muse Group application used to install and update its software and sounds: MuseScore Studio, Audacity, MuseSounds virtual instruments, effect plugins, loops and sounds, and courses. It is required to install instruments and plugins for MuseScore Studio. It can be downloaded from musehub.com.
MuseHub shows its products in horizontal "carousels" (rows of cards, like a shop) and in grids. Without this add-on, with NVDA:
museHubAccess-1.1.0.nvda-addon.Nothing needs to be configured: the add-on only acts while MuseHub is in the foreground.
Press F6 to move between these areas.
MuseHub is currently only available in English (the Language setting only offers English, United States).
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Right arrow / Left arrow | Next / previous product. "Last item" is reported at the end. |
| Home / End | First / last product of the row, even if not shown on screen. |
| Down arrow / Up arrow | First product of the next / previous section (the section name is reported). |
| Enter | Opens the product page; focus goes to its main button (Get, Buy, Subscribe...). |
| Tab | The buttons of the product ("Get Audacity 4 for free", "Tip, Audacity 4"), then out of the section. |
| NVDA+Tab | Repeats the product with its description. |
In grids (search results, "See all" pages) left and right arrows go through all products in order, across rows; up and down arrows move by rows. Up and down arrows also jump between sections from the section buttons ("See all", "Previous page", "Next page" and the page indicators).
Each product is reported with: name and price, regular price when discounted, labels (App, Plugin, MuseSounds, Bundle, Free, "-83%", "Included in MuseSounds Pro"...), developer ("by Muse Group"), and its tagline as description. Reviews are reported with title, rating, author, date and version, and the review text as description.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| F6 / Shift+F6 | Next / previous area: side menu, search box, page (returning to where you were). |
| Control+1 to Control+9 | Opens a tab and focuses its first product: 1 Home, 2 MuseSounds, 3 Apps, 4 Plugins, 5 Loops & Audio, 6 Courses, 7 Notifications, 8 Library, 9 Settings. |
| Control+Down arrow / Control+Up arrow | Next / previous section of the page, from anywhere (also in Settings and on product pages). |
| Control+F | Moves to the search box. |
| Alt+Left arrow / Alt+Right arrow | Previous / next page. |
| Control+Shift+R | Shows the whole page as a document. |
| NVDA+End | Reports what is being downloaded or installed, MuseHub messages, or else the page messages ("All caught up!"). |
| Control+Shift+P | Reports the progress of downloads and installations. |
| Control+Shift+A | Changes how progress is reported: speech, beeps, both or off. |
| Control+Shift+H | Shows the list of commands. |
Whenever the page changes (opening a product or "See all", searching, changing tab, going back) the add-on waits for the page to load, reports its title and its messages (for example "All caught up! There are no new notifications at the moment" in Notifications), and focuses the first useful control. The focus moves MuseHub makes meanwhile are not reported. Pressing any key cancels this. When a tab is opened from the side menu with Enter or Space, focus stays in the menu but the page messages are read too. After "Check for updates", the result is read.
MuseHub sometimes opens a window over the page: the tutorial offer when getting MuseScore Studio, "Sign in to continue" when downloading without being signed in, purchase confirmations... They are now reported as a dialog with their title and text, focus goes to their main button (the first one with a caption, not Close), and when they close focus returns to the button that opened them. F6 moves to a popup that is still open.
Warning: the MuseScore Studio tutorial offer has no cancel button. Closing it with Escape does not cancel: MuseHub starts installing MuseScore Studio without the tutorial.
While downloading or installing, MuseHub shows a status bar at the bottom ("Downloading MuseScore Studio", "Installing MuseScore Studio") and the product button becomes a progress button. The add-on reports automatically when a task starts, its progress every 10% (or the chosen step), phase changes and the end ("..., finished"); during installation there is no percentage and "in progress" is reported. Products being downloaded report their status ("Loading") and percentage. MuseHub messages (errors, "Update Complete"...) are read automatically. While the add-on reports progress, NVDA's own progress bar reports for MuseHub are silenced, so percentages are not heard twice. Most downloads require being signed in to MuseHub.
The sounds of a pack are read with their tempo ("One Shot" or BPM) and price, with the pack and author as description (up and down arrows move between them). Their selection check box is named "Select ..." and the Purchase button reports its price. Control+Shift+R lists all the sounds.
NVDA menu, Preferences, Settings, category MuseHub Access: how progress is reported (speech, beeps, both, off), the percentage step, whether to report progress and messages when MuseHub is not the active window, and whether to read messages automatically.
All keys can be changed in NVDA menu, Preferences, Input gestures, category "MuseHub".
Much of MuseHub is plain text that Tab cannot reach: long descriptions, "What's new", version, size, reviews... Control+Shift+R opens the page as a document: titles are headings (H, 1, 2), product rows are lists (L, I), and Settings show each option with its value. Press Escape to close it.
The Library with installed products has been checked less than the rest of MuseHub. Please report anything that is not read well, with the MuseHub version (Settings, About).
